Nerve Damage by J.L. Meyers

Nerve Damage
by J.L. Meyers
Genre: Psychological Thriller

A fatal car crash. The sole survivor. And the dark hooded stranger that
wants her dead.

When a terrible accident—not accidentstole
my parents’ lives, my whole perfect life changed. My memories are
hazy, and there are scars on my wrists. I’ve been locked away for
my own protection…until I prove my sanity,
until I lie. There
was no hooded figure on the road that day, no one standing over me as
I lay paralyzed watching my parents burn.
I am Cassidy Lockheart…20-year-old orphan.
Determined to free my caged mind, I find myself far away on an unexpected trip
to help return my forgotten past. The snow was part of my life
before, but now it’s like a blank slate, until an avalanche changes
everything. But I’m not alone. These other ‘lucky’ trip winners
may not be the strangers they pretend to be. And my hooded attacker…I
see him everywhere.
Is this real? Or delusion caused by head trauma?
Either way, I’m being watched. I can sense it. I can feel it.
Someone is after me; maybe they’re after us all. The avalanche was
no accident. It was staged to deliver us to this abandoned place. A
place where the walls whisper dark secrets of a sinister past…a
past no one can escape. Trapped, this snow won’t let up…it won’t
let us leave. My lost memories hold clues, but they’re buried so
deep, polluted and twisted in my every waking nightmare. What is
real? I don’t have the answers. But I need them. Time is ticking
and if I don’t figure this all out soon it will be too late.

The past is coming for us all…and it wants blood.

Psychological Thriller / Horror

“Think of the tension of Silence of the Lambs combined with the horror of
Carrie and you have Nerve Damage. This is a psychological thriller
that won’t let you put it down, yet you are almost too scared to turn the page!”

Diane Richmond (devoted bookworm) ★★★★★
This chilling tale from J.L. Myers is a suspenseful and twisted addition
to other great psychological thrillers from the likes of Sarah A.
Denzil, K.L. Slater, and Dot Hutchison.
Jessica L Myers’ vivid imagination and quiet demeanor as a child led her to
the imaginary worlds of books. Even at a young age, her love for the
supernatural was prevalent, with her first loved books being R.L.
Stine’s Goosebumps series. Following that she took an interest in
other non-fantasy fiction, including Virginia C. Andrews series
Flowers in the Attic.

In her teen years, Jessica spent many school hours writing poetry and
dark short stories and took up sketching some of the terrifying
things that came from the graphic night terrors she’d grown up with.
As an adult and after meeting the love of her life, Jessica got married
and started a small construction business with her husband. With the
birth of her son, Jessica suffered PPD and found escape in her books
and their fantasy landscapes. It was at this time that her need to
write flourished. In 2009 the decision was made and the first words
to her New Adult Paranormal Romance novel What Lies Inside were
written.
When Jessica isn’t immersed in writing about extraordinary characters
with dangerous abilities and deadly obstacles to overcome, she likes
to spend time with her two kids and husband, curl up with a good
book, or watch anything and everything supernatural.

Organized Crime Queens: The Secret World of Female Gangsters by Jerry Bader

Organized Crime Queens:
The Secret World of Female Gangsters
by Jerry Bader
Genre: Biography
From the bizarre world of female Japanese motorcycle gangs to the historic
rise and fall of London’s Forty Elephants, the history of female
organized crime is both fascinating and strange. These are the
stories, both true and legendary of the female crime bosses that
broke the mould of feminine gentility. This is The Secret World of
Female Gangsters.
Most of society thinks of women as the gentler sex, the sex with more
compassion and empathy, not prone to violence. The truth is history,
and current events, are littered with stories of violent women who do
whatever it takes to get what they want; women who either revel in,
or accept as needed, whatever acts of torture, murder and depravity
that are required to achieve their goals. We’re not talking about
mundane psychopaths that kill their children and their husbands; or
homicidal maniacs that kill randomly without purpose, other than for
some sexual or psychological gratification. We’re talking about
female organized crime bosses, leaders of highly structured, often
successful criminal organizations.
Most everyone knows about the high profile male mobsters; people like
Lucky Luciano, Myer Lansky, Bugsy Segal, Arnold Rothstein, and Al
Capone: men who became legends, rightly or wrongly, due to the
public’s insatiable appetite for literature, movies, and television
stories based on their lives. But what about their female
counterparts, they definitely existed and still exist. Their stories
are both fascinating and cautionary. Their histories provide an
alternative perspective on the equality of the sexes; everything has
a price. We are talking about smart, capable, talented, ruthless
women who under other circumstances might have become leaders in
either business or politics; women who demanded respect, loyalty and
a big payday; or else.
What’s Your Poison?:
How Cocktails Got Their Names
by Jerry Bader
Why do we call mixed alcohol drinks “cocktails”? How do they get
their exotic names: names like the Singapore Sling, Screw Driver, the
Alamagoozlum, the Angel’s Kiss, the Hanky Panky, the Harvey
Wallbanger, Sex On The Beach, the Monkey Gland, the Brass Monkey, the
Margarita, the Japalac, the Lion’s Tail, and many, many more? Who
makes up these names, where are they invented, why, and how do you
make them? These questions will be answered in “What’s Your
Poison?” by exploring the incidents, people, and places that
prompted the creation of these exotic concoctions.

Beating the System
by Jerry Bader
It’s been said that gambling is a tax on the dumb; that may be overly
harsh, but the fact is, most gambling venues are designed to
guarantee you lose. It doesn’t matter if it’s horseracing,
lotteries, casinos, or the annual state fair. As soon as you plunk
down your dollar you’re a loser. Those milk bottles at the bottom
of the pyramid you’re trying to knock down are filled with lead,
and that basketball net that looks so close you can’t miss, is
actually oval not round, and barely big enough for a ball to pass
through.

Most people like to take a chance every once in a while; maybe they’ll
get lucky. It’s a kick, a lark: an afternoon’s entertainment.
They know when to walk away… others don’t… some can’t. For
them it’s a drug, a search for an unattainable high. Deep down they
don’t even want to win. It’s sad. It’s pathetic is what it is.
You see these sorry souls at the track, at the casinos, or anywhere
there’s a game of chance. They’ll bet on horses, dogs, camels’…
even killer roosters. It’s nuts I know, but their addicts, they’ll
bet on people, and that’s the worst bet of all. Gambling is for
suckers; that’s why gamblers don’t gamble, they fix the game, and
even then, it doesn’t always work.
Horse racing is advertised as the sport of kings. Sure, if that’s what
you want to believe. I was a jockey, it was my job, but I made my
living as a fixer. You want to know what really goes on behind the
scenes. You want to know what horse racing is really all about. Then
come a little closer, cause I got a story for you.

Out by Cara Dee

Out
by Cara Dee
Genre: Contemporary M/M Romance
I guess I always figured coming out was something you did for friends
and family, and maybe it is, but it’s personal too, you know? The
person I was last night is new. I wanna get to know him.”

I had two things on my list when I arrived in Los Angeles. One, track
down Henry Bennington, the uncle and guardian of my little brother’s
best friend, and tell him to get his ass back to Washington. He
needed to do something about his nephew, who was turning into a
douchebag. And two, figure out just how non-straight I was. For the
past two years, I’d had all these fantasies, and now was the time
to explore them, far away from my sleepy little town.
Nowhere on this list did it say, “Get Ty’s uncle into bed and fall for
him.” I wasn’t supposed to fall in love with another city either.
But between brunch, making new friends, and discovering the man I was
meant to be, I lost sight of the future that had once seemed pretty
damn vivid. How the hell was I supposed to merge my old life and who
I used to be with the new dreams Los Angeles and Henry had awakened
in me?
(Standalone.)
I’m often stoically silent or, if the topic interests me, a chronic
rambler. In other words, I can discuss writing forever and ever.
Fiction, in particular. The love story—while a huge draw and
constantly present—is secondary for me, because there’s so much
more to writing romance fiction than just making two (or more) people
fall in love and have hot sex. There’s a world to build, characters
to develop, interests to create, and a topic or two to research
thoroughly. Every book is a challenge for me, an opportunity to learn
something new, and a puzzle to piece together. I want my characters
to come to life, and the only way I know to do that is to give them
substance—passions, history, goals, quirks, and strong opinions—and
to let them evolve. Additionally, I want my men and women to be
relatable. That means allowing room for everyday problems and, for
lack of a better word, flaws. My characters will never be perfect.

Wait…this was supposed to be about me, not my writing.
I’m a writey person who loves to write. Always wanderlusting,
twitterpating, kinking, and geeking. Advocate for equality and Autism
awareness. There’s time for hockey and cupcakes, too. But mostly, I
just love to write.

those who would heed it.
Readers will recognize Sandy Lender as the author of the 2007 fantasy novel
“Choices Meant for Gods” from ArcheBooks Publishing, but
the South Florida resident has been writing since she was knee high
to a grasshopper. At the early age of about six, Sandy entertained
the folks in her great grandmother’s apartment building in Southern
Illinois with ghost stories of squeaky spiders. Sandy won a
first-place award with that imagination when she wrote a sequel to
Harper Lee’s “To Kill a Mockingbird” during her school days
in the St. Louis area before earning a degree in English from Truman
State University in Kirksville, Missouri. That led to a career in
journalism where she’s worked for a variety of publications the past
23 years.

Today she’s the editorial director of two construction magazines and
publisher of an avian publication. ArcheBooks has released the final
of the “Choices” trilogy, and a number of her YA novels
will get star treatment in 2016 and beyond. Sandy is also a sea
turtle conservationist. She has companion parrots and turtles in her
home who keep her hopping. It takes one ring on her cell phone to
discover she’s remained obsessed with Duran Duran since 1984. She’s
beaten cancer twice, but still battles the IRS. To begin 2016
properly, she welcomes readers to share in the conclusion of
Chariss’s epic story in “Choices Meant for All.”
